Privacy Policy
Writeoff is a record-keeping app for drivers. This policy explains exactly what it stores, where it stores it, and what it never does.
Everything you record stays on your phone. Nothing is uploaded. There is no account, no server, and no analytics on your financial information.
What the app stores
- Photographs of receipts, in the app's private storage. Not added to your photo gallery, not readable by other apps.
- Text read from those photographs, recognised on the device itself. The image is never sent anywhere to be read.
- Location, only while a shift is running. A notification stays visible the entire time. It stops the moment you tap end.
- What you type — earnings, expenses, vehicle details, and the share of your driving that is business use.
What the app does not do
- It does not upload your records to any server.
- It does not sell, rent or share your information with anyone.
- It does not send analytics or crash reports containing amounts, merchants or locations.
- It does not track you when you are off the clock.
- It does not read your messages, email, contacts or other apps.
Location, and why there is no background tracking
When you tap start, the app records your position to measure distance, and a notification stays visible for as long as it is doing so. The app holds no permission to read your location in the background and cannot do so when a shift is not running. That is a limit in how the app is built, not a setting that can be changed later.
About the internet permission
The app's permission list includes internet access. This comes from Google's on-device text-recognition library, which declares it as part of its own manifest. Writeoff itself makes no network requests. The permission is present because of how Android merges library manifests, not because the app uses it.
Automatic backup is switched off
Android normally copies app data to a user's Google Drive automatically. Writeoff disables this deliberately: your receipts and financial records are not sent to Drive, because that copy would sit outside the app's control and outside this policy's promises.
This website
These pages are static files. They set no cookies, run no analytics and carry no trackers. The host records ordinary server access logs, as every web host does.
Your data is yours
Export. Every record can be exported as spreadsheet files, at any time, from the profile screen. The export uses the same format the app imports, so it is portable rather than a read-only report.
Deletion. See Deleting your data.
Keeping records
Tax authorities generally require business records to be kept for several years. The app never deletes your records on its own for this reason. What you keep, and for how long, is your decision.
Children
Writeoff is a tool for people doing paid work and is not directed at children under 18.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and the app will show you the new version before you continue using it.

This document is a working draft that describes what the app does today. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer, and every marked placeholder must be replaced before the app is published.
